Bound for your Pleasure
In my solo performance ‘Bound for your Pleasure’ I bring focus to the ancient practice of ‘Foot Binding’ which exsisted from the 10th Century into the 20th Century. It was an ancient tradition of forced deformity of women entailing breaking the toes and instep of the feet starting as young as 4 years of age. It’s aim was to change the female's feet to conform to male ideals of beauty and marriageability.
The performance was part of the International artistic programme of 2020 of Bbeyond.
‘On the Way’, Concepts of Freedom and Identity are explored and expended in a deep ecology of performative actions. The role of artists is seen as a catalyst of creativity and contemporary thinking, moving the agenda from ego to eco – echoing issues around politics, geopolitics, social identities and personal identities.
